3) Select one of the filters from within the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective palette.

5) Select one of the editing tools to begin applying the effect to the image. Lesson

Using the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective tool to correct color and light in an image using a Wacom pen tablet.

In this lesson, we will use a Wacom pen tablet along with the Selective tool from nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Standard Edition to correct the color and light in an image. The Contrast Only and Remove Color Cast filters will both be used.

Step 1.
This image of two happy newlyweds is a little too dark, especially in the newlyweds' faces. We can correct the lighting on the faces quickly and easily using the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective tool along with the Contrast Only filter. Using the Contrast Only filter instead of alternative methods of increasing contrast allows you to alter the contrast in an image without changing the colors. This is very useful when working on images that have a specific color that you want to keep, such as skin tones, sky, or other easily recognized colors.

1. The Contrast Only filter is first selected from the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective tool interface.

2. The slider settings within the Contrast Only filter are then set to increase the light and contrast within the image. The settings that are selected are based on the appearance of the skin, as this effect will be applied to the image selectively. Once the correct settings are found, the OK button is selected.

3. The Paint button is then selected from the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective tool interface, and the filter effect is painted into the image. Using the pressure sensitivity of your Wacom pen tablet, more or less of this effect can be applied by pressing softer or harder on the pen as the effect is being applied. If the effect is painted into an area that does not need it, clicking on the Erase button and brushing away the effect will remove it.

4. The Apply button is then selected to accept these settings and continue on to the next step.

Step 2.
There is still a slight color cast in part of the image, again most noticeable in the skin of the newlyweds. Using the Remove Color Cast filter from nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 with the Selective tool, we can neutralize this color cast and apply the effect selectively using the pressure sensitivity of your Wacom pen tablet.

1. The Remove Color Cast filter is now selected from the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective tool interface.

2. The slider settings within the Remove Color Cast filter interface are set to neutralize the magenta color cast that is in the image. Once the skin looks more natural, the OK button is selected.

3. The Paint button is then selected from the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 Selective tool interface, and the effect is painted into the image. Using the pressure sensitivity of your Wacom Pen Tablet, more or less of this effect can be applied by pressing softer or harder on the pen as the effect is being applied. If the effect is painted into an area that does not need it, clicking on the Erase button and brushing away the effect will remove it.

4. The Apply button is then selected to accept these settings and finish the image.
