Control System: Jands Vista Lighting Console

Founded in 1970, Jands is Australia’s leading manufacturer of lighting products, a importer and distributor of best of breed products for the Entertainment industry and a provider of services to the contracting and installation industry.
The Jands wide range of lighting products represent the culmination of years of experience manufacturing equipment for the entertainment industry.
One of their control systems, the Vista, adopts Wacom’s Cintiq/PL-550 (PL-550-1501) model interactive pen display. Imagine if you could create lighting effects the way you'd create a painting—with broad brush strokes.

Draw your show with the best drawing tool ever invented—the pen
Instead of a touch screen, the Vista uses a pen. Wacom’s interactive pen displays combine the advantages of an LCD monitor with the control, comfort, and productivity of Wacom's patented cordless, battery-free tablet pen technology.
Our technology works in much the same way as a mouse, except that you use it to draw directly on-screen the same way you'd draw on a piece of paper. Not only does it make handling on-screen controls more intuitive, the pen gives your accuracy and speed simply not possible with touch screen technology. The combination of the pen with Jands' simple, easy-to-use visual interface makes the Vista the first console that lets you build your lighting designs visually.
When asked what influenced the decision process, the Jands R&D Manager replied, "We were extremely impressed with the visual characteristics of the display itself, in particular the exceptional viewing angle available to the user. However the deciding factor was the extraordinarily precise pointing capability of the tablet control electronics that enabled extremely fine control of the cursor - mandatory for the application. Additionally Wacom was willing to customize the product to ensure that Jands received exactly what they needed."
The Vista puts everything you need on the one screen.
No more flicking through menus just to change a colour or a gobo—with the Vista you just point your pen at the colour palette and drag it around to choose the one you want. If you want more precision you can choose from a huge list of manufacturer's gels, or set the exact CMY values you want—all of this on one screen and in just a few seconds.
See what's really going on for the first time
With the Vista you can actually see everything that's happening in your design in relation to time: when lights come on, when they go off, when they change colour, when they move. Whatever the sequence of events, you can see it all laid out in front of you, and what’s more, you can change any of it simply by picking up the pen, selecting an event and moving it around.
